Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom. Psalm 90:12 I love that this verse reminds us, as parents, of our true end goal—not only in parenting, but in life itself. It lifts our eyes beyond today’s to-do lists and daily pressures and points us toward where all of …

Have a lovely day
My latest book review is up, and this one hit clos My latest book review is up, and this one hit close to home. Faith Womack from @biblenerdministries reminded me that Scripture isn’t meant to confirm us — it’s meant to reveal God and reshape us. Studying the Bible faithfully leads to worship, not just information.

This book reframes Scripture as one big story pointing to Christ — and calls us to read it carefully, humbly, and with hearts ready to be changed.

Through the story of Judas Iscariot, we explore th Through the story of Judas Iscariot, we explore the condition of the human heart, the consequences of turning away from God, and the importance of truly following Jesus—not just knowing about Him, but trusting Him with your whole life.

The heart in Scripture isn’t just your emotions. I The heart in Scripture isn’t just your emotions. It represents your core—your will, your trust, your inner commitment. To believe in your heart means you truly trust that Jesus rose from the dead and that He is who He claims to be.

And Paul says that through this belief, we are justified. That word “justified” means declared righteous before God. Not because we earned it. Not because we cleaned ourselves up. But because we are trusting in Christ’s finished work.

Then Paul continues:
“…and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.”

Confession is the outward expression of inward faith. When you truly believe something in your heart, it eventually shows up in what you say and how you live. Confessing “Jesus is Lord” isn’t just reciting a phrase—it’s publicly acknowledging that Jesus is King, Master, and Savior.

So which comes first—belief or confession?
The answer is both.

They happen together. True belief produces confession. Genuine confession flows from real belief. Verse 9 shows the process from the outside in. Verse 10 shows the process from the inside out.

When you believe in your heart that Jesus has risen from the dead, you can’t help but acknowledge that Jesus is Lord.

And when you confess Jesus as Lord sincerely, it reveals a heart that truly believes.

These verses protect us from two errors:
•	Thinking salvation is just saying the right words.
•	Thinking salvation is just a private, hidden belief that never affects our lives.

Biblical faith is both internal trust and external declaration.

This verse is basically a gospel mic drop. As you This verse is basically a gospel mic drop.

As you may notice this verse starts with but God. “But God” phrases are some of the most powerful moments in all of Scripture because they mark divine intervention. It’s the moment when the story could have ended in despair… and God steps in.

In Scripture, the phrase “but God” usually marks three things:
•	Interrupts human failure – sin, weakness, hopelessness, death
•	Shifts the direction of the story – from what we deserve to what God does
•	Highlights grace – not earned, not expected, not initiated by us

You see this pattern all over:
•	“You meant evil against me, but God meant it for good” (Gen. 50:20)
•	“We were dead in our trespasses… but God, being rich in mercy…” (Eph. 2:4)

“But God” reminds us: God is not reacting to our goodness—He is acting according to His character.

Romans 5:8 is one of the clearest examples of this gospel turning point: ““But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us,”

Some versions use the phrase but God proves His love or but God demonstrates His love and all of these reminds us that the story does not end with what we deserve, but with who God is.

In this episode of the Sojourner Storycast, we ste In this episode of the Sojourner Storycast, we step into the story of Simon the Zealot—one of Jesus’ twelve disciples who was known for his fierce passion for Israel’s freedom before following Christ. Simon’s story helps us explore how God can transform even the most unlikely hearts, taking energy and zeal that once fueled anger or rebellion and turning it toward courage, truth, and love in His kingdom.

Through Simon’s journey, we discover that God’s kingdom isn’t advanced by force, politics, or power, but through faith, obedience, and sharing His love with others. Simon’s life reminds us that our identity is not defined by our past, our hobbies, our favorite teams, or even the world around us—but by the God whose image we bear and whose Spirit guides us every day.

Simon’s story invites us to follow Jesus with all our hearts, letting Him transform our passions and priorities, and showing that even the most unlikely people can become bold, faithful witnesses for God.

In the New Testament, “Jesus is Lord” wasn’t a cas In the New Testament, “Jesus is Lord” wasn’t a casual phrase. It was a confession of allegiance. To say Jesus is Lord was to say He is God in the flesh, risen and reigning — and therefore worthy to rule over every part of our lives.

Paul shows us that salvation involves both the heart and the mouth. We believe deep down that God really raised Jesus from the dead. And we openly confess that He is Lord. Not just Savior. Lord.

This confession is more than agreeing to a statement. It is surrender. It is turning from self-rule to Christ’s rule. It is staking our lives on the truth that God raised Jesus from the dead — that sin is defeated, death is conquered, and Christ reigns.

And if we’re honest, that’s where it gets personal.
We often want Jesus close… but manageable. Comforting. Helpful. A guide for our plans.

I love how Timothy Keller once put it:
“If the distance between the Earth and the sun, which is 92 million miles, was the thickness of a piece of paper, the diameter of our galaxy would be a stack of papers 310 miles high… And if Jesus is the Son of God who holds all this together with the word of his power, is this the kind of person you ask into your life to be your personal assistant?”

The One who holds galaxies together is not applying for a position in your life. He is Lord of it.

And yet — this same Lord promises that if you let Him be Lord over your life you will be saved.

So today, don’t shrink Jesus down. Don’t treat Him like an accessory to your plans. Believe in your heart that He is risen. Confess with your mouth that He is Lord. And then live like that confession is true.

The Bible is a unified story of God redeeming His The Bible is a unified story of God redeeming His people for His glory.

Creation. Fall. Redemption. Consummation.

• Creation: We see what we were made for — communion with God.
• Fall: We see what went wrong — sin and separation.
• Redemption: We see the cross — Christ paying the price to bring us back.
• Consummation: We see what’s coming — a new heaven and new earth where every tear is wiped away.

From Genesis to Revelation, Christ is in all of Scripture.
Before the cross, the Bible points to Jesus.

After the cross, it shows what He accomplished.
When we see that, everything changes. 🤍

In this episode of the Sojourner Storycast, we ste In this episode of the Sojourner Storycast, we step into the story of Thomas—one of Jesus’ twelve disciples who is remembered not just for doubting, but for asking honest questions and showing remarkable courage: “Let us also go, that we may die with Him.” Thomas’ story helps us explore what it means to follow Jesus even when it’s scary, confusing, or risky.

Through Thomas’ courage, doubts, and ultimate confession—“My Lord and my God!”—we discover that faith isn’t about having all the answers or being perfect, but about trusting Jesus, walking with Him, and learning to know Him every day. Thomas teaches us that it’s okay to ask questions, that doubts can lead to deeper understanding, and that following Jesus is about relationship and trust, not checklists or rules.

Thomas’ story reminds us that God meets us where we are, loves us even when we doubt, and calls us to live boldly for Him. His life invites us to follow Jesus freely, courageously, and with open hearts.
