The Prophet, Priest, and King We’ve Been Waiting For

I want to share something that has completely changed the way I read the Bible.

When you read the Old Testament, you see prophets, priests, and kings over and over again. At first, they can feel like separate characters in separate stories. But they’re not random. They’re revealing something.

Every prophet shows us our need for a better Prophet.
Every priest shows us our need for a better Priest.
Every king shows us our need for a better King.

The prophets spoke God’s Word — but they were still flawed men. Some doubted. Some ran. Some misunderstood the very message they carried. And their weakness quietly tells us something: we need someone who reveals God perfectly.

The priests stood between God and the people. They offered sacrifices again and again and again. But the sacrifices never lasted. They were reminders — not resolutions. And that tells us something too: we need a mediator who can actually remove sin, not just cover it temporarily.

And then the kings. Even the good ones — David, Solomon — they failed. They sinned. They misused power. Their reigns ended. Their kingdoms fractured. Which leaves us longing for a ruler who is righteous, just, and unshakable.

And then the New Testament opens.

Jesus doesn’t just step into one of those roles.

He fulfills all three.

He is the perfect Prophet — not just speaking the Word of God, but being the Word made flesh.

He is the perfect High Priest — not offering another animal sacrifice, but offering Himself once for all.

And He is the perfect King — not ruling from an earthly throne that can fall, but reigning eternally with authority that cannot be shaken.

This matters for us today.

When we’re confused about truth, we don’t look inward — we look to Christ, our Prophet.

When we feel shame or guilt, we don’t try to fix ourselves — we rest in Christ, our Priest.

When the world feels chaotic and unstable, we don’t panic — we trust Christ, our King.

The Old Testament isn’t just ancient history. It’s God patiently teaching us that human leaders will never be enough. Systems will never be enough. We will never be enough.

We needed a Savior who could fully reveal God to us, fully reconcile us to God, and fully rule over us in righteousness.

And in Jesus, we have exactly that.

He is everything the Old Testament was pointing toward.

And He is everything we still need today.

Because this good news is too incredible not share, I also made some charts to go along with it. Hope this blesses someone out there and points you to the beauty of Christ.
